Eat Your Heart Out: Dal Bhat
Dal Bhat, a unique lentil soup & rice hybrid, is a staple of Nepal that you are just as likely to find in a Himalayan Base Camp as you are at a city restaurant. Typically the meal is served on a silver platter alongside curried or seasonal vegetables, and it is so filling that it is often used to fuel the climbers making their way up Mt. Everest (early mountaineers would go as far as rating the day’s trek based off the number of Dal Bhat servings needed). Whether it’s with your Sherpa before the day’s hike or with the locals in Pokhara, be sure not to miss this dish the next time you are in Nepal.
