Imperial Citadel & Forbidden City

Hue, Vietnam

The Forbidden Purple City was once the home of the emperor and his concubines. Almost completely destroyed in a fire in 1947, a few buildings are left. The partially restored Thai Binh Reading Pavilion has beautifully landscaped surroundings, including a small lake with a Zen-like stone sculpture and ceramic and glass mosaic detailing on the roof and pillars.
