Chiang Rai

Thailand

Originally founded in the 13th Century by King Meng Rai, Chiang Rai was the first capital of the Lanna Thai Kingdom, and even today it is impossible not to feel the echoes of the city's royal past ringing throughout hallowed temple grounds and the surrounding natural splendor that envelopes you. North Chiang Rai falls within the main commercial centre of the region known as the Golden Triangle, the area where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos converge, and offers a unique cultural experience like no other.
