Just to the west of U, find the traditional Tibetan province that has long battled with its neighbor for political dominance over the Tibetan plateau. With the two primary urban centers of Shigatse and Gyantse, Tsang is a strong contender. While both cities offer visitors important historical and cultural sights, Tsang finest treasures remain just a detour away from the main thoroughfare.
From Sayka, which lies just 21km from the highway and proves well deserving of an overnight visit and thorough exploration of one of Tibet’s finest monasteries, to the ever alluring Mt. Everest, reached via the Everest Base Camp on the outskirts of Shegar, which continues to draw adventure enthusiasts from around the globe.
