One could say that The Tongsai Bay is very much like her owner. The creator of Tongsai’s concept, ideas and experience are reflected in what Tongsai is all about today.
The land of The Tongsai Bay, dating back some 50 years ago, used to be a wolfram mine. The previous owner had a few very basic shacks, for the more basic kind of accommodation. Tongsai was then a perfect haven for very few backpackers who could find her. There was no electricity, telephone, TV, or any modern forms of home convenience, just PURE NATURE.
In 1985, the late Akorn Hoontrakul, creator and proprietor of The Tongsai Bay, at that time Chairman of The Imperial Family of Hotels saw Tongsai Bay from the sea. “It was love at first sight,” Akorn later told friends. He actually bought the land of The Tongsai Bay seven days after seeing her for the first time.
