Nepal's Bhaktapur

Bhaktapur

Also referred to as Bhadgaon, meaning City of Rice in Nepali, is the shining third in the Katmandu Valley’s triumvirate of stunning urban highlights. Teeming with rich tradition and culture, Bhaktapur has remained relatively unchanged for centuries. Its cobblestone streets tie an ornate string of captivating temples, courtyards and monumental squares, while its side streets are adorned with shrines, courtyards and water tanks. With almost no traffic, Bhaktapur offers pleasant walks throughout its curio of delights, where its robust culture may be experienced around every corner. A vibrant town of skilled craftsmen, Bhaktapur also introduces the intrepid traveler to a world of hand made gems including delicate pottery, ornate woodcarvings and colorful weavings.

Visit both Bhaktapur’s culturally thick Durbar Square as well as its delightful Potter’s Square, or head to the inspiring Taumadhi Tole where the tallest temple in the Valley, the Nyatapola Temple, towers over the rolling valley.
