Laos's Northern Laos
Pak Ou Caves
Located at the junction of the Mekong and Ou Rivers, find the two caves of Pak Ou nestled into the lower portion of a limestone cliff. Arrive at the caves via a serene long tail boat ride through the picturesque setting of the Mekong River, then explore the shrine of Buddhist statuary that waits inside.
Be sure to visit the Ban Xan Hai Village just minutes from the caves, where the jars of this former Jar Maker Village now hold lao-lao, the sweet concoction of the Lao locals. Before your return to Luang Prabang, venture through Ban Thing Hong, a recently excavated cave with its amazing artifacts dating 8000 years or more.
