Japan's Gora Kadan

Gora Kadan

Discover the wonders of an ancient Japanese hideaway at Gora Kadan, the former summer residence of the Kan-In-No-Miya imperial family. This noble residence, set in idyllic surroundings in the national park of Hakone, offers authentic Tatami-style rooms with cypress baths and open air or whirlpool baths. After a visit to the nearby traditional museums, savor traditional Kaiseki cuisine and enjoy a spa treatment.

The rooms at Gora Kadan are Japanese tradition at its best. As you walk around and through many of the passages, staircases, external and internal walkways, you begin to uncover a rich and detailed architecture. Standard rooms at the hotel have cypress tubs large enough to float in. Suites include saunas and garden-view granite baths fed by natural hot springs; and whirlpools, steam baths, and indoor and outdoor pools are situated throughout the spa and other public spaces.

The bountiful surroundings supply most of the produce for Gora Kadan’s kaiseki-style cuisine, which consists of several courses and requires the use of fresh ingredients. Meals at the hotel can occupy several hours, and, in accordance with kaiseki standards, no two can ever be the same.
