India's Southern India
Mattancherry Palace
Given to the ruler of Cochin in the mid 1550’s, the Mattancherry Palace began as a token of goodwill in exchange for trading rights. This two storied structure built around a courtyard gained the misnomer of Dutch Palace when it was later renovated by the Dutch.
Today Mattancherry Palace hosts a rare collection of royal artifacts and breathtaking murals depicting scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharta and Puranic legends connected with Shiva, Vishnu, Krishna, Kumara and Durga.
