Tiananmen Square
The sweeping square of this Gate of Heavenly Peace, or Tiananmen Square is not only the soul of China, but also a significant representation of the desire for order and harmony in the Chinese universe. It is a vast expanse of paving stones, and scene of the 1989 student demonstrations, and an ordered microcosm of the Communist universe.
Today, Tiananmen Square acts as a huge park, where couples stroll languidly and children play harmoniously. Find the venerable Qianmen Gate at the very south of the square, one of the last remaining gates of the old wall of Peking.
