China's The North
Xi'an
The venerable and eternal city of Xi’an is one of the country’s most important monuments, as well as one of its most historically significant. The capital of the Shaanxi province, in northern central China, Xi’an was the country’s ancient capital springing from almost mythical beginnings. It has since undergone a renaissance as a tourist center, both for its own Tan, Han and Ming dynasty monuments, and as a base for visiting the majestic army of terracotta warriors to the city’s east.
As the affluent eastern point on the Silk Route, Xi’an hosted numerous incoming foreign emissaries, whose Islamic flavor lingers even today. The city has served as the national capital of 11 dynasties and continues to awe the thousands of people who visit to this very day.
