Cambodia's Western Cambodia
Battambang
The charming capital of Battambang is Cambodia’s second largest city and a relaxed retreat from neighboring Siem Reap. Nestled on the banks of the Sangker River, this primarily farming and trade center offers a delightful array of restaurants and shopping within the town center, as well as a fine starting point from which to explore the many highlights that sparkle just outside the city.
Battambang is best known for its Angkor period ruins at Ek Phnom and Phnom Banan, yet Phnom Sampeau and the site of the local Killing Fields are also well worth a visit.
