Bhutan's Central Bhutan
Central Bhutan
Until 1970, the only way to access the colorful spectrum of people, architecture and scenery unique to Central Bhutan, was mounted atop a sure footed, and impressively hardy, mountain pony. Today, Central Bhutan has taken great strides to open its doors to the outside, yet the many wonders that reside within remain unchanged.
Discover Trongsa, the sturdy glue that binds the country perched at the picturesque crossroads of the 3420m high Pele La of the Black Mountains, the fertile Mangde Chhu Valley and the stunning Trongsa Dzong, where the Crown Prince must serve as the regional governor of the dzong before he may rule as king.
Just outside of Trongsa, find the four valleys of Bumthang, whose magical allure stems from its saints and treasure seekers, demon conquering struggles and phenomenal miracles, and rich array of priceless relics. Forested in a dense carpet of green, Bumthang offers insight into the cultural capital of the country, where many of the country’s oldest monasteries, scenically stunning hikes and impressively lively festivals find their home.
