The most photographed temple in Bali, Pura Tanah Lot is well deserving of its photogenic acclaim. Among the most important and highly venerated sea temples of Bali, Pura Tanah Lot holds much more than its iconic reputation among cameras at sunset. Closely associated with the Majapahit priest, Nirartha, Pura Tanah Lot was built in accordance with its neighboring sisters, Pura Luhur Ulu Watu and Pura Rambut Siwi to honor the spirits of the sea. Only accessible during low tide, Pura Tanah Lot sits on a small islet and is said to be guarded by giant sea serpents.
