Besakih
Consisting of 18 towering grass thatched pagodas nestled on the slopes of the towering Ganung Agung, this Mother Temple fully earns its name. Pura Besakih, the biggest temple in Indonesia as well as one of the most revered, attracts thousands of both natives and pilgrims each year to pay homage to this holy site.
Situated thousands of feet above sea level, Besakih is divided into several minor temples, each honoring a particular deity. While Besakih is captivating at any time, the best time to witness this site is during one of the many festivals held throughout the year, when thousands of elaborately dressed devotees ascend the mountain with offerings to leave in honor of the Gods.
