Bali's Ubud
Goa Gajah
Commonly known as the Elephant Cave, Goa Gajah is anything but common. An ancient Bhuddist hermitage and bathing place, the cave is thought to date back to the 11th century, before the Majapahit takeover in Bali.
Enter through the carnivorous demon mouth that forms the opening to this dominating cave carved into the face of cliff and see fragmented remains of the lingam and yoni symbolizing Shiva. Or, explore around the site where crumbling rock carvings of stupas adorn the rock face overlooking the river Sungai Petanu.
